Thanjavur (தஞ்சாவூர்)

Next, on the tenth page, there is a mei kirti which says that Rajendra Chola II won the Koppam battle and held a coronation ceremony there. Also on display are iron nails used in the construction of Gangaikonda Cholapuram , Tribhuvanam temple photo , and idols of male and female servants are placed there.
There are many prints in this museum. All these are placed in a glass ark, but there is no information about what is written on the scrolls. I had carried books related to footprints with me in order to know about those footprints. But I felt that only those who know about it well can understand it. So on my next trip, I think I should ask the administrators there or ask the university students who have researched it if there is any information about footprints.
Ancient puja items are displayed here. But all these are preserved in a glass ark and it is very disappointing that there is no mention of its names or the period of its use. Many stone statues are also kept here. It also displays statues of Nandi , a lion pillar , and a defaced statue of Agastya.
Many epigraphical photographs are kept in this museum. In it
they have written about the inscriptional details of Sarvasiva Pandita, the Guru of Rajendra Chola I. We can understand this only if we look in detail where these inscriptions were taken. Because deciphering inscriptions is not an easy task.
Next are the photos of Kaveripoompattinam temple. I hope that you will get a lot of information about Kaveripoompattinam when you see these photos. I am determined to visit the places around this temple during my next trip.
A beautiful statue of Kulothunga Chola is placed inside the glass box. When looking at the statue, it was not like the an ancient statue but seems it maybe made recently or a duplicate of the original. This first Kulothunga Chola is also known as the Chola who removed customs duty on goods. Kulothunga Chola I was also known as the Chola who evaded customs due to his avoidance of customs duties on merchandise. The trident Shiva temple inscription mentions Kulothunga Chola Devar who removed customs duty.
There are many one-line stone inscription photographs everywhere in this museum which have valuable information. In it, many inscriptions such as Rajarajan wood inscription , Tirumukoodal Hospital inscription , inscription on a a warrior who saved a women from enimies, Uthramerur inscription etc. have been kept in detail. This Rajarajan “Marakal” inscription is part of the 8000 inscriptions which say that the name of the wooden pole used for measuring paddy is Rajarajanen. Thiru Mukoodal Hospital Kalvetu Thirumukudal Temple in the name of Jananathan, one of Rajarajan’s special names, the college hostel hospital was functioning during that time.
M Hospital was named after Veera Rajendran Veeracholan Adular hospital. A year’s worth of medicines were kept in stock at M’s clinic. A portion of the inscription with the inscription Aadura Sali Veera Cholanil is exhibited. It is very amazing to see such inscriptions.
Next they wrote about the Periya Kovil inscriptions and how the Tamil alphabet developed over time to current state.
Next they wrote about the paintings of Sarabhoji kings. It is unnecessary. This was done to hide the history of our Tamils. Here they have written in detail about the inscriptions during chola time.It is in bits and pieces. It would be very useful if these were published as a book.
There are inscriptional references to Sembian’s Madhavi.
Thiruvannamalai District Tiruvothur Lake Sempiyan Mathevi has an inscription named Mathevi Pereri of Thiruvothur. This is the only place where inscriptions are written in detail.
There is an inscription on the merits of Rajaraja Chola’s mother. This Thirukovilur song inscription says that Vanamadevi who is his mother who gave birth to Rajarajan, a tiger with various special qualities, is a child who is drinking milk when his mother jumped into the fire of her husband pyre abandoing the baby at childbirth committing “Sati” which was common at that time
All the details of Raja Rajan’s temple works such as what kind of puja items Raja Raja gave and what idols he made for Thanjai Peruvudayar temple have been given is listed in inscriptions.
Next, the Chola era copper plates are seen as the most important. I am thinking of researching and writing about these plates next, but i belief many have done so but not consolided into a website. I am very impressed with all the information on this page. I will never forget this wonderful trip. I am going to travel here once again soon after June 2023.
In the next photo, there is a photo of Tiruppallatura temple , and information about terracotta lamp , terracotta earrings , Chinese pottery found in Gangai Konda Cholapuram and other items. All these items show industrial trade going on between Tamil Nadu and China. But the details of how old this business is are not mentioned there.
There were information boards containing information about the towns named after Rajaraja Chola and the Chola era parikalans. I am very eager to visit and learn more about the places on this ninth and tenth page we had gone through in my next visit.See you on page eleven…
